JDC Relief Worker, Poland
Bernard Cantor was a member of Overseas Unit Number 1, the first JDC relief unit sent to Eastern Europe after World War I. He arrived in Poland in February 1920. Cantor was murdered by Bolshevik soldiers on July 5, 1920, near Yarmolintsy (Ukraine) while on a mission to bring relief to Jews suffering from the effects of World War I, pogroms and civil war.
